I’ve loved being a coach. It’s an amazing responsibility, a constant challenge, and a wonderful opportunity to guide people to be their very best.
And yet, I’ve sometimes looked around and realized that in a room full of coaches, there are no other women. For far too long, on soccer fields, at coaching events, and in private conversations, I’ve heard the question: “Why are there so few women in coaching?”
It’s time to change the numbers.

ABOUT THE JILL ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
In 2019, U.S. Soccer launched the Jill Ellis Scholarship Fund to empower and advance female coaches, together with the SheChampions Mentorship Program, presented by Volkswagen, to provide hands-on support to women navigating everyday challenges in the coaching industry.
The Jill Ellis Scholarship Fund provides financial aid (valued at 50% of the course registration cost) for female coaching candidates earning their PRO, A, & B Coaching Licenses, with a goal to double the number of elite female coaches by 2024.
In line with Jill’s passion for mentorship, her namesake fund also provides resources and support for the SheChampions Mentorship Program, which provides hands-on guidance for recipients of the scholarship.
Combined, these programs will help us erode financial barriers, build a community for female coaches, create meaningful support systems, and tell the stories we need to inspire more women for the future.
